You’ve watched the videos, you’ve bought the gear, you’ve joined the courses and told yourself “This is it. I’m doing it”.

But here we are, and nothing’s changed. It’s not that you don’t want to create. You do. But wanting isn’t the problem. There’s a familiar cycle at work. You consume content. You feel inspired. You plan, but you never start. And the discomfort from never starting, it feeds straight back into more consumption.

The thing that’s getting in the way of that last step is resistance. Resistance isn’t new, we just rarely think about it. And that is because it’s really, deeply uncomfortable. It shows up as perfectionism, impostor syndrome, overwhelm, lack of time, lack of energy or fear. The more times you loop though this cycle, the harder it is to break it.

You blame yourself. You think you’re lazy, not good enough, not ready. You hide behind research, learning, buy new gear. These are all the different masks resistance wears. But it’s not the work you’re avoiding here. You’re avoiding the discomfort by listening to all those voices in your head.

The truth is that creating doesn’t feel like a movie montage. It feels awkward, uncertain, and often a bit crappy. There are the messy, mundane and unrewarding bits…
