Most of us are capable of setting clear, realistic and achievable goals, but our drawback is self-discipline. We are simply unable to be consistent enough to put in the work. We start and then eventually slow down until we give up.

In the past, I’ve signed up with a gym, invested in cute gym wear, went the first few weeks and just stopped going. I’ve set reading goals and didn’t even get through the first book.

Thanks to poor self-discipline, the goals we set for last year are still on our goals list for this year. We should make it a goal to achieve self-discipline.

If this is the case for you, don’t beat yourself up. You have a chance to make better decisions and take more items off your goal list before this year is over.

We need to remove temptations. Sometimes I don’t do what I have to do because there are too many temptations around. In order to slow down on unhealthy snacking, I had to completely stop buying unhealthy snacks.

Understand your why. We are more likely to pursue something if we understand exactly why we need to get it done. We need to look at the big picture and always have in mind the reason why we need to do certain things.
